Business Growth and Profitability Stymied Globally by Costs Attached to Enterprise Software Change
Sliedrecht, The Netherlands, November 09 2011, UNIT4, the world’s leading provider of business software for Businesses Living IN Change (BLINC™), today announced further findings of a new international research project undertaken by Technology Evaluation Centers (TEC) which surveyed 307 business managers from a range of industries about their ERP and enterprise applications’ ability to support business change.
In response to the survey, more than half (52 percent) responded that they feel their ERP solution provider has hindered their business’ ability to grow or become profitable owing to the cost of continual changes to the system as a result of business change pressures. 62 percent also said that they always/usually consider the financial impact of re-architecting or adjusting their ERP solution when considering an important business opportunity. 44 percent of operational managers surveyed said that the challenge of making changes to their SAP, Oracle and Microsoft ERP solutions has “very often” or “about half the time” prevented or delayed needed cost-cutting and growth opportunities for their company.
“The promise of ERP or any enterprise system is to support growth and aid profitability,” said Gabriel Gheorghiu, TEC Research Analyst. “Where systems are obstructing a business’ ability to be successful, it’s time to think about your systems strategy. ERP is the backbone of many organizations and where they struggle to adapt their systems to changes in the business, they will be over-spending on IT resource and fire fighting without ever being in synch with business evolution.”
Andrew Taylor, Head of Project Delivery for Magnox, a nuclear power specialist that recently chose to replace SAP with Agresso Business World said: “Like many organizations we are always looking to drive greater efficiency, boost performance and make cost savings through our choice and use of technology. We were feeling increasingly limited by our existing system as we could not make the changes required at the speed of change we were experiencing. Agresso Business World’s architectural design makes it simple to respond to business change in the post-implementation phase, without spending or relying on external consultants. It will interface with all our other systems, including those used by our HR and commercial divisions and is essential for managing the business through challenging times, enabling crucial business process redesign. We’ll benefit from accurate and timely financial and management information both now and in the future, while also reducing the cost of change and the long term cost of ownership when compared to reinvesting in the current system we use.”
